This is what a
standard Lotus Carlton head looks like, its a long beast but pretty much the
same as a GSi item. Differences are modified camshafts & some machining
carried out in the combustion chamber to help lower the compression ratio.
Inlet Port Work
The first
picture shows the standard inlet port within the head. The other pictures
show the work I carried out to match the inlet port to the injector rail
holder & to also the gas flow the inlet path. Also notice the shortening of
the valve guides to also improve airflow.
Exhaust Port Work
The first
picture shows the standard exhaust port within the head. The other pictures
show the work I carried out to enlarge & gas flow the exit port. Again the
shortening of the valve guides was also carried out.
Chamber Work
Again the
first picture shows the standard combustion chamber within the head. The
other pictures show the work I carried out to enlarge & gas flow the inlet &
exhaust ports.
Inlet & Exhaust Valves
These pictures
show the cleaning of both the inlet and exhaust valves. A comparison between
before & after the work can be seen. New valve stem oil seals are also
obtained. The brown items were a factory recall to be replaced with the
green items, looks like this engine (737D) still had the original brown
items, bar one !!
Completed Head
Head was also
skimmed to ensure a nice flat sealing surface and finally the fully
completed head was ready to be re-fitted once all the valves had been fully
lapped in.
